Player's Plaza / Rogue-likes and Diablo 3

Heya,
New to this website and rogue-likes in general. Since I discovered the genre recently thanks to Rogue Legacy, I was wondering if people who were really into rogue-likes considered the Diablo series to be "rogue-like" or something else. How do people feel about this? Just wondering if my prior experience in those games would be helpful in the newer rogue-like games that have come out recently.
