Programming / Loops on dungeon-type levels
« on: October 17, 2014, 04:15:22 PM »
Any of you has ideas of a good way to implement loops in a classic rooms and corridors dungeon?

My current generator places a room then selects a wall tile from all rooms to place a corridor + room branch and so on, and as such there are no possibilities for a corridor to connect to an existing room.

Early Dev / Ananias, looking for testers for game persistence version
« on: July 11, 2014, 05:16:38 PM »
Hello all!

Finally, after a lot of work, saving and restoring games is working on Ananias.

In order to do this, had to go a bit with a side project for circular references serialization on JavaScript ( ). That was pretty fun and crazy.

I need your help to ensure it's working correctly since it was quite a bunch of work! If you could go to this link in as many browsers and platforms as possible (including mobile), and let me know if you can save and restore games (specially complex games and re-resumed games), that'd be great!

The new version is here:

Thank you!

Temple of the Roguelike / De Pertineret Conversationem Roguelikes
« on: May 29, 2014, 04:19:32 PM »

MAY 29, 2014

To Our Venerable Kindred the Developers, Players and Roguelike enthusiasts within the Temple of the Roguelike, and to all of Good Will.

Relevant Discussion on Roguelike matters - the reason why the Temple of the Roguelike was founded - should be the focus of our conversation within the forums.

1. That the participants in the forums are human beings and that with human nature comes the urge of sharing personally formed opinions on controversial matters is a fact we recognize.

2. And that, as an inevitable counterpart, this behavior might harm other persons with opposing opinion on the same subjects - is something we cannot prevent.

3. But, as much as we can't disregard human nature because it's the very same source that brings life into the discussions, we should never forget the reason this place was formed.

4. And we acknowledge this undeniable facet of the human nature has the potential of acting against this very fundamental reason.

5. And this reason is to allow roguelike enthusiasts around the world to share information about the roguelike games, their design and development, to generate healthy discussion around it and thus keep the roguelike genre alive and relevant, and in continuous evolution.

6. And so, dear brothers and sisters, with the hopeful wish that this noble goal can persist, we urge you all to focus conversation in the Temple on roguelike matters, for that's the reason that unites us together regardless of our mundane opinions on other subjects.

Let's talk about roguelikes

Development continues!

The prime goal of the 7DRL Challenge is to achieve Completion, elusive Completion. Developers spend a lot of time working on their game engines, yet never been able to complete a game for others to play.

In that sense, I feel my last two entries have at least been real successes, may be I’ve learned a bit along all these years after all.

However, that doesn’t mean development should cease after the challenge.

As usual, I’ve decided to continue onward with the development of Ananías; the original 7DRL version, for curious and jurors, will remain at New versions will be released at and at Google Play.

Development will focus on the following: Usability and Gameplay Depth. Might also at some point spice the plot a bit, but that’s not a priority.

This new version brings the following heartbreaking changes:

* Add Minimap and exploration mechanics
* Remove message log, change it for inline messages
* Double speed monsters
* New items distribution
* New enemy definitions
* Added Starter Kit (Weapon + Armor)
* Show Damage Roll for weapons
* Random PC appearance

So, go and play now or download it for your Android!
