Is there some sort of stand-alone download, or do I need to go through ToME4 to get it running under Linux?

There IS a standalone download (ModDB) but it's Windows only, I am afraid. You'd probably have to grab ToME 4 itself to get it running under Linux.

I am going to tweak version numbers now and I will think about evocative subtitles, too.

Getter, got any tips for this problem:

P.S. I think my understanding of semantic versioning is sloppy - if I'm reading the outline correctly, v.0.0.5 should have been 0.1.0, 0.0.7 should have been 0.2.0, 0.0.9 should have been 0.3.0, 0.0.12 - 0.4.0, 0.0.13 - 0.5.0, 0.0.15 - 0.6.0 and this update should be 0.7.0.
The question is, can I change the version tags on Git? And the download names on ModDB?

Another version is out.

Bear in mind that updates might be less and far rarer now that the university year has started again...

I also mourn the "shelved" message for Incursion greatly. It is my personal favourite. I would also argue here is where most of your/the significant achievements (you do not see) have been made.

Have you considered trying out/contributing to Veins of the Earth? We're trying to recreate the goodness that is Incursion in an easily moddable engine and in an open source way...

A new update is out!

Grab it from: https://github.com/Zireael07/The-Veins-of-the-Earth/releases/download/v.0.0.16-standalone/standalone.Veins.0.0.16.zip. ModDB update to come later, as usual.

CHANGELOG:

* typo fixes
* bug fix: unintended bonuses at 1st character level
* backgrounds - for those who want quicker character creation
* new skill-enhancing feats: Artist, Investigator, Magical Aptitude, Magical Talent, Negotiator, Nimble Fingers, Persuasive, Self-sufficient, Silver Palm, Stealthy, Thug
*  new feat (only as part of a background): Born Hero
*  new spells: Bear's Endurance, Bull's Strength, Cat's Grace, Eagle's Splendor, Fox's Cunning, Owl's Wisdom,
*  UI improvements: increased tooltip font size, moved tooltips
*  new UI skin: old gold and black semi-transparent without shadows
*  Toughness feat works as intended
*  casters gain a new spell level every 3rd level; rangers become eligible for this rule from lvl 5 onwards

Available spells per day aren't incremented properly for higher spell levels as far as I can see, but I'm back to uni and not likely to have time right now.

We're now at beta 3.

Beta 3 is now out!

Download

CHANGELOG:

* typo fixes
* bugfix for magic items not showing up
* new spells: bardic cure light wounds; heal x wounds (heals a percentage of total hp); cure moderate/serious/critical wounds
* new icons for hotbar
* resting takes 8 hours if complete, less if interrupted; monsters respawn upon rest
*  Light Sleeper feat implemented
*  skills screen sorted alphabetically
*  weapon focus, improved critical, favored enemy implemented
*  no more magic items at game start
*  Exotic Weapon Proficiency needed to wield exotic weapons
*  weapon proficiencies implemented
*  double weapons working as intended

Alas, not all features originally planned for beta 3 made it in. The worst offenders are traps and point buy - I've spent days wrangling them and still can't make them work as intended. They "almost" work - but almost isn't enough when traps don't load and point buy doesn't increase stats :x

I just realized this is the 'infinite sci-fi roguelike' being bandied about in Development, so I guess it's time to try this out!

Programming / Re: Basic game programming concepts

You could try using an existing engine such as T-Engine. I believe you could make an interactive fiction game using the engine easily, just making dialogs and buttons.

Abandoned Arts - when do we start? Do I need to register at paizo.com? How often would I need to post?

P.S. Count me in as a high elf rogue/warrior hybrid.

... and 0.0.14 is out.

I've had a player report yesterday that T-Engine hangs on WinXP at 13% before loading main menu.

what do you find the most frustrating about PbP games?

Sessions dying out. Really. Not a single one of 6 sessions I participated in went anywhere. Some died after a few weeks, some after months, but all died out without any resolution.

About the rest: well, ASCII art would be a nice touch. Rolling on tables and otherwise randomly determining what happens is a must.

This sounds really interesting... I've played a few PbP games.
