Could you perhaps display extra horizontal padding between characters?

So I see this is on Steam Greenlight. Is it going to become a commercial game once it's out of beta? Don't really want to get myself hooked on a game that I won't be able to continue playing - I'm kinda broke at the moment! :(

It used to be the case that you could grind yourself to level 9 before meeting Goo,as you did not starve in Garden rooms.  They do not exist any more so you will starve to death if you try this  now.

Garden rooms don't exist anymore? What do you call those shadowy rooms full of plants with shafts of sunlight peeking in, then?

There's a fourth type of gamer, actually - the 100% completionist. I call those guys "expanders" in this blog post:

Do monsters ever respawn? I can't seem to kill the Goo (yeah, I know, I'm a noob), and I thought maybe I should grind around some more for better loot. But if monsters don't respawn, then that's kind of pointless, and I'll just starve to death looking for foes to fight... :P

Programming / Re: Adaptive bosses

That way the bosses are equally difficult no matter what choices you make!

So it doesn't matter what choices you make? That sounds like the opposite of a game I'd like to play.

The choices would matter, just not when fighting bosses. This makes sense because bosses are things you have to fight exactly once, whereas other monsters you can avoid if they're too strong for your particular character, or farm if they're too weak. It would be unfair to the player to force him to make the same set of choices every time just so he can beat all the bosses!

Programming / Adaptive bosses

I was listening to Roguelike Radio episode 69, and the issue of bosses being too easy or too hard depending on player choices of abilities struck a chord with me. What if roguelikes adopted a mechanic from the shooter Warning Forever, and had adaptive bosses? So if you have a lot of fire spells, then the boss has fire resistance, but if you have a lot of lightning spells, then he has lightning resistance. That way the bosses are equally difficult no matter what choices you make!

Sneetches? That was just Dr. Seuss predicting goths.

Probably less tedious than doing it with a mouse, though...

Combat techniques that you learn by equipping certain weapons, like in Final Fantasy Tactics Advance. So a great-axe might grant the Cleave ability, and you can use the Cleave ability so long as you are wielding the great-axe. But if you gain enough XP while wielding the great-axe, you learn the ability, so that you can use it even if you are wielding a different weapon.

To add to the inquiries, why does a roguelike need a "lead programmer" and what I assume is a project manager? How complex is this game, anyway?

Whenever I think of this game I get it confused with "Thy Dungeonmans", the series of text adventures from homestarrunner...

Temple of the Roguelike / Guest accounts?
« on: June 23, 2013, 01:17:31 AM »
There's a spam message in General / General Discussion posted by Leftwhich, who has no profile and is listed as a guest account. Guest account? Since when do forums have guest accounts? How are you supposed to stop spammers if you don't even require them to log in?

edit: oops, sorry, I get Temple of the Roguelike and Roguebasin mixed up sometimes! Could a moderator please move this to the appropriate forum? Thanks! :)

A mobile app that is a font editor.

Seriously. Think about it. You draw the characters with your finger, and pinch to adjust the thickness of the stroke. It's a natural fit for a touch interface!

Just imagine what roguelike developers would do with a font editor that's so simple and easy to use...
