Traditional Roguelikes (Turn Based) / Re: Red Rogue (now at v1.0.7)
« on: November 23, 2015, 11:41:31 AM »
Really cool. Was just watching Game HUnters video on it the other day and got back into it myself. was also thinking it work work well on android.

I checked out the android version and it does work pretty well. Swipe controls are pretty good. Would just be nice if the menus had touch control as well instead of using swipe and if it were possible to zoom in a bit. The game is pretty small on a phone. Still a pretty good port though.

That look pretty cool. I'm a fan of Yahtzee's other adventure games.  Too bad I'm still running win xp  :(.  Looks like it only supports windows 7 and up.

Player's Plaza / Re: Infra Arcana 12x24 fonts
« on: November 18, 2015, 06:06:46 PM »
I think Martin has seen them before. I posted them a while ago on the old IA Wiki space, but those forums seem to have gone down. He's more than free to include them if he wishes in the next release.

I don't think that he liked the distorted font though.

Player's Plaza / Infra Arcana 12x24 fonts
« on: November 17, 2015, 01:15:43 AM »
I was having problems seeing the game that well and having it all fit my screen, so I decided to make some fonts for Infra Arcana that suit me a little better as far as visibility. 12x24 came up the biggest and filled the screen the most, so that is why I chose that size to use.

Now I decided to share in case anyone else might enjoy them.

12x24 Bold http://i597.photobucket.com/albums/tt51/Brewtal_Legend/12x24.png

12x24 Typewriter http://i597.photobucket.com/albums/tt51/Brewtal_Legend/12x24TW.png

12x24 Distorted http://i597.photobucket.com/albums/tt51/Brewtal_Legend/12x24Dist.png?t=1447636116

The last one, 12x24 Distorted came about by accident when I was first trying to figure out how to get a usable font that I liked.  It is kinda my favorite too though not very practical. It just looks like a regular font sheet if you look at the file in a picture viewer. You'll have to actually try it out in game to see what I mean.

Just replace and rename any of theses in the image folder of infra arcana. be sure to back up the original 12x24 file though just in case.

Hope some gets some enjoyment from these. Please let me know if you find them useful and/ or like/dislike them.

sorry about the bump, but how do you enable the tiles?

Traditional Roguelikes (Turn Based) / Tales of a Viking: episode one
« on: November 16, 2015, 12:00:32 PM »
I stumbled across this tonight.

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.macecrystal.and.vikingtales

It's for android and ios.

When I was first reading about it, it sounded really cool. And it is actually pretty cool and fun.
One problem with it though. It's Hoplite. It is almost exactly like Hoplite.

I actually rather like it. It's kind of like a very slightly updated and re-skinned version of Hoplite. The only reall differences other than the theme are that there are items that can be used and that you eventually control up to three characters at a time.

Other than that, it's the same move set, upgrade system, and enemies.

I hope that the creator of Hoplite had something to do with this. At least they should credit him with the original concept, but I don't see them doing so anywhere so far.

If when you try to play Hack Lite, instead of a dungeon map you get a screen
full of weird characters, your problem is probably the lack of ANSI.SYS.

Not sure if you saw this in README. However, it runs okay for me (also XP SP3) when using D-Fend Reloaded, a DosBox frontend.

I didn`t have to mess with CONFIG.SYS like the readme says, just chose the HDD configuration in Hacklite.cnf, adjusted the paths accordingly and it works.

(Which is as well, I can not stand a DOS game not working and would probably stay up late fighting this :P)

No, I didn't see that. Thanks for pointing that out. I did change the hdd paths though.

I wasn't using dosbox either. Was hoping it would run as easy as larn and umoria out of the box.  I only have dosbox as part of some gog packages. Don't have it actually installed on my computer since I don't really have anything I need it for. (other than hacklite now obviously).  :p

Think you could post a copy of your config file?

I can't seem to get the hacklite.cnf configed right.

I keep getting a "bad option line" error on all the path names.

EDIT:  after doing some searching, I found this:  http://www.robvanderwoude.com/ansi.php#AnsiCom

Now I'm determined to see if I can figure out how to use the ansi.com file to make a batch file that will run hacklite without having to mess with my config.sys file. Gotta figure out how to make a proper batch file first of course though.   :p

Interesting. Does Forays.exe wait for a keypress before crashing?

No it doesn't.

Player's Plaza / Hacklite?
« on: November 14, 2015, 08:48:57 PM »
I've been delving into some older roguelikes lately and wanted to give hacklite a try.

Unfortunately, I cannot get it to work for the life of me.

I'm using the version found here: http://www.roguelikedevelopment.org/archive/

At first I couldn't get it to open at all. Then i tried messing with the config file and got it to start, but it just comes out an unplayable jumbled mess.

Anyone get it to work?  I'm using win xp btw.

Shame. my .net does appear to be the latest version.  The 0.7 version worked fine for me though.

Traditional Roguelikes (Turn Based) / Re: Larn 12.5
« on: November 14, 2015, 06:48:24 PM »
I hadn't heard of xlarn. I tried Dlarn on my phone but wasn't too fond of it.

xlarn lite looks to be a demo version of I guess the full game which looks to be coming to steam. Some sort of extended version of larn. The lite version seems to only have 200 mobul time limit.

I was getting back into Moria and Larn lately and happened to notice that Larn has actually been updated and release last month on October 24 1015!

https://github.com/atsb/RL_M/releases

I didn't see anything mentioned here at the temple, so thought I'd share for anyone else still interested in Larn.

Donnie Russell's SDLLarn is also rather good for those wanting some color and sound:  https://sites.google.com/site/donnierussellii/larn

Unfortunately, NLarn still hasn't seen any movement.

Having some issues getting this to run correctly. If I try to run the normal Forays file, the game crashes after showing the title screen briefly. If I run ConsoleForays, it will actually start and play. But, it will only play correctly in a window. A small window. It won't let me maximize the window to fit the screen.

I use Alt+Enter to go into full screen and the right edge of the screen is cut off slightly at the beginning. But then when I start to move or look at any menus, the display starts becoming jumbled. It starts kinda moving from left to right with every other key press and the info bar on the left becomes extremely jumbled to where it is unreadable.

I tried opening the forayes.exe.config in notepad, but it was jumbled and undecipherable in notepad, but it just says:
Code: [Select]
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<configuration>
</configuration>

Not sure what to make of that.

Also, there are two files named forays.exe and consoleforays.exe that my computer seems to recognize as ms access files but can't actually open them.

I'm using an older win xp sp3 laptop.

The game looks really cool and would love to try it. but running in the small window is just not possible for me to play comfortably.
