Off-topic (Locked) / Titan Quest Steam Key
« on: December 12, 2012, 05:19:13 AM »
Got this key in the humble bundle...

90GY0-PZHMD-E0IHN

Titan Quest is I guess what you would call a diablo-like.  I enjoyed it back in the day but I already have it on steam.  Figured someone on here might want it.

Install the community patch for optimal play...lot's of bug fixes.

Traditional Roguelikes (Turn Based) / Epilogue MacOS Port
« on: December 05, 2012, 09:06:01 AM »
Epilogue is now available on Mac!

Epilogue is graphical roguelike with an easy-to-use interface that was designed completely irrespective of genre norms.  Rather than having to remember which key brings up which interface element, nearly all information is on screen all the time.  Rather than having to slog through 5 floors of the same rats and orcs that all the other games have, every floor has a unique set of enemies and loot.  Each level is short, and the difficulty ramps up quite quickly.  Rather than grinding for the lucky rare weapon, every enemy is equipped like the player and leaves their equipment behind upon death.  In the end, the only way to survive is via strategic use of items and abilities, which come in short supply.  Are you up for the challenge?

Other Announcements / Women & Roguelikes
« on: September 12, 2012, 11:25:58 PM »
Since I have the luxury of seeing demographics through Desura, I came across some pretty interesting data on the gender of Epilogue players:

90% Male
3% Female
7% Anonymous

That's right, the female percentage is less than half the percentage of people that chose to remain gender-anonymous.

I don't have stats on gaming as a whole, but surely that number is incredibly small!

Traditional Roguelikes (Turn-based) / Epilogue Ascension!
« on: September 11, 2012, 04:07:14 AM »
I cannot quite explain my elation at finally beating epilogue...words just cannot describe the near-hyperventilating experience that level 7 is.
It may be interesting if you play the game to see what setup I had that survived.
It may be especially interesting for all the people that say melee is impossibly hard in epilogue to take a look at what weapon proficiency I chose!

Here's some scattered advice that may really help you if you have made it past level 4 but can't quite make it:
Choose your first battle on a floor wisely!  Run away or simply don't engage if things are not tactically to your advantage.  You can start getting careless once a few enemies are down.
You don't need to kill every enemy!  Especially watch out for champions in the later levels.
Be proactive with item usage.  A perception potion used when no enemies are around is a great way to get an advantage when they do show up.
Use the environment: pull enemies into nooks and out of sight.  Thorns are a great place to seek refuge as well.

Some mild spoilers are visible below, which you may or may not care about.

Programming / Requesting 64bit Linux Feedback
« on: August 12, 2012, 12:48:26 PM »
Hello there,

Someone recently told me they were unable to run Epilogue on 64bit Ubuntu.  As one person isn't a great sample size, I was wondering if anyone who has access to a 64bit Linux distribution could try out the most recent build and let me know if it runs fine or if it crashes.  Please list your computer specifications.

Here is the build: http://kraflab.com/epilogue_current_linux.tar.gz

Thanks a bunch!  With more information hopefully I will be able to figure out the problem.

Incubator / Epilogue Incubator Thread
« on: June 27, 2012, 01:08:15 AM »

1. What is Epilogue?

2. Goals
I think the feedback I set out to gather when I began this thread has already been gathered.  Feedback on recent additions to the game, such as the stat affinity system is welcome, as is feedback in general.   However, I'm not sure what the goals are moving forward, except perhaps to think of a new goal.  The game is for most intents and purposes in a finished state.

There is a game jam going on this weekend with the following devs:

Sophie
Rat King
Sos
Pekuja
Tametick (ido)

You can find it over at indiebuskers.net

About:
"We're a group of six indie game developers who are fond of game jams. Game jams are fun, but sometimes we have to eat and pay rent, so we thought that we could do a game jam as a public performance! The basic ideas for the games are provided and voted on by the audience. We'll spend a whole weekend working on the games, streaming it all on live video to the internet. Feed an indie today!"
