"Portralis", the Angband Variant, is roguebasin's featured traditional roguelike for August 2023! Last updated in 2012, it takes Angband closer to the RPG realm with NPC dialogs and detailed quests, and also features an interesting multiclass system.

Thank you for posting it! I think I'll use it as a starting point to delve into some of these jewels from this year :)

Traditional Roguelikes (Turn Based) / Re: Grog 1.0.0 released!

And now we have Grog 1.0.1! I did a gameplay vid some weeks ago, it's looking pretty solid.

I need to play more, since it seemed a bit too easy for me.

I wish I could play more 7DRLs so I could tell. Actually I may get into trying a bunch from this year so I can discuss them.

I'm sure there are interesting takes there.

I do recall your articles from back then, I know I perused them and read them a lot and they were very inspiring. My published roguelikes are far from popular, but feel free to mention them. My AI modules are super simple and probably didn't manage to implement a lot of what you had there, favoring simple gameplay that could be devised by the player vs. a more intelligent and complex behavior. But I know these articles really got me into diving into the world of roguelike development to attempt to make complex simulations of living beings.

Now that I remember, I think I mentioned them in my University thesis back in 2007.

I mostly play on PC, but I know games in mobile are just different expectations for most players. Sometimes however I believe it's good to break those expectations of casual gaming, to provide a deeper experience for players that just want to play a more complex game on the go.

That's why I made Ananias, I guess.

Traditional Roguelikes (Turn-based) / Re: Start at the deepest level
« on: July 30, 2023, 01:26:27 AM »
Hmmm this sounds interesting, but I cannot recall any roguelike that does this,

Is it just an inverted model like you are escaping or climbing a tower?

Or do you really start in the hardest levels and they start getting easier? (?)

I probably disabled that some time ago due to security. I'll check into that :)
