Today I released v1.1 of Snowfallen here: https://almondbun.itch.io/snowfallen

Here are the changes:

-    A lot of new items including different weapon and armor types.
-    Items can now have special attribute bonuses.
-    Monsters (and the player) now use different move and attack rates. If you use heave armor do not expect to be able to run away from your foes
-    Poems! Read a poem to a monster and freeze it or start a fire storm.
-    A new equipment and inventory screen to sort all those items
-    Better UI: Dynamic tooltips, support for a player following camera and a lot more
-    Better graphics

All in all: a better gaming experience!

I just wanted to mention that using the 'y' key for directions should be avoided most of the time because there are some keyboard layout (e.g. german) where the 'y' and 'z' keys are swapped (QWERTZ keyboard layout). Also, I was not able to hit the ? key on a german layout.

I however managed to walk down the stairs 100 times in a row because it seems you can do it from every position in the dungeon. ^^

Last week I released my new game Snowfallen. You can download it for free here: https://almondbun.itch.io/snowfallen

It was the result of a 7-day challenge and actually the first video game I have ever released. As such the game was rather simple and not too complex (yet fully playable). I did not plan to invest more time into it but I had so much fun designing the game that I decided that it deserved a few updates.

So, I am currently working on the first v1.1 update.

My main concern about the 7-day version was the lack of decision making. Due to time constraints I had to rush a few things. For example there is only one weapon, one armor type and you level up by collecting stars. Those things are all no-brainers. There is no reason not to use the sword +7 instead of the sword +3. Also, there is no reason not to collect a fallen star of strength. Basically once you get used to the game you end up making the same decisions every time. That is (in my opinion) not good game design.

Therefore the main focus of v1.1 is decision diversity. The new features include

- More weapon types with different advantages and disadvantages
- More armor types (same as above)
- More healing items
- A new game element: Poems! Read a poem to your foes and cast a firestorm or teleport to another map.
- Action Diversity: Different move and attack times depending on armor, monster type or active effects.

I also redesigned most of the user interface elements. You can now use a fully functional inventory system with tooltips.

There is still enough work to be done. I am planning to release the new version in January. It is rather early but if you have any suggestions please let me know.

Hello.

I'm the developer of the game. If you have any suggestions I would be happy to listen to them.

This was actually my first try on a video game (I'm a business application developer by trade) but I have been playing roguelikes for years. So it seemed like a good start.

I'm quite happy with the result if I may say so myself. I got a lot of things covered in seven days.
