Woohoo!  Thanks for your support getter77!

My Kickstarter stat tracking says that I got a bunch of backers from this forum post ... I'm so glad to have found the rogue-like community alive and kicking :)

An interesting side note, one of the co-creators of Rogue, Glenn Wichman backed the project and sent out a post to his Facebook friends supporting it.  That was especially cool to see given that Rogue was of course a big inspiration to not only me an this project, but to a whole generation of folks and an entire genre of games.

Haha ... I will shamelessly take that bump :)  Thanks so much for your pledge and support!!!!

I still have a big gap to close for the funding goal ... so please share the project on your facebook and twitter!

Thanks for the comments.  The demo I've got now is really just for press and isn't ready for prime time players just yet.  Later next year is when I'm targeting to get the alpha and betas going to incorporate feedback from the community to build the game we want to make together.

And yeah, it's a bit griddy ... there's a reason for it with the tiled line of sight animations that is hard to describe with still images.  So I edited the original post with an animated .gif that hopefully communicates it more.  The diamond grid also helps with turn based movement and touch controls too.

Slash was already kind of enough to write a post about the project on roguetemple.com:

But I thought I'd give a little more detail and background for the forums too.

I'm the developer of a new rogue-like game that I'm hoping to complete soon with the help of Kickstarter called Rogue Wizards.  I've been a game programmer for almost 20 years and have spent most of my career working on mainstream-rogue-like games such as Diablo 3, Hellgate: London, and Marvel Heroes.  Sure, these games aren't your hard-core rogue-likes, but all of them share a common thread of procedural environment generation and loot.

So I recently left the big studios behind and struck out by myself to try to build my own indie project, which just also happens to be a rogue-like because, well, that's what I love :)

In Rogue Wizards you take on the role of a wizard in search of the reasons for the mysterious dark portals that have begun opening all throughout the world.  The focus of the game are the isometric dungeons which are procedurally generated.  The items and loot found in the dungeons are also randomized with several qualities and tons of magic enchantments.

In between the dungeons you return to your Wizard Tower sanctuary and build up your very own thriving town with vendors, magic altars, crafting cauldrons, an item forge stone, and extract magic essences from the earth to power your spells.

Rogue Wizards will be coming out for PC, Mac, iOS, and Android.

The Rogue Wizards Kickstarter campaign is currently live, and it ends on November 11th.
