7DRLs / Against All Odds
« on: March 09, 2014, 03:09:22 PM »
Hi all,
I'd like to participate in the March 2014 7DRL challenge (http://7drl.roguetemple.com). However there's a catch:
I've never written a rogue-like before. As a matter of fact, I've never successfully finished programming any game before, let alone in 7 days. Also, I've never played any rogue-likes before. So it looks like all odds are against me,and that's why I'm gonna give this a shot.
I think I'd like to experiment with a 2.5D perspective on a low resolution because that too is something I've never tried before. My game is going to have generated levels and permadeath as is required for any self-respecting rogue-like, and it will be set in a fantasy world. Also, dungeon crawling. What else is going to be in the game I don't know yet.
Did I mention I have a day job? Well, I do. Making the chances that this will go anywhere pretty slim, I have to admit. But hey, it's for fun.
