Player's Plaza / Suggestions on what to play next?

I have recently got into playing Rl's namely Brogue and dwarf fortress (witch isn't really a rl but I digress),
I was hoping that i could get help finding a new Rl that is:
is a bit more complex in building and mechanics than Brogue.
I also very much like Oryx tiles.

Programming / Where to start?

I would like to start making my own RL, But don't know where to start
if possible I would like someone to point me in the right direction

- I have previous experience in C++ and other languages and am also willing to learn a new language to do this.
