Traditional Roguelikes (Turn-based) / Re: Thrive
« on: June 15, 2013, 08:47:46 PM »
For those wondering if I'm working at it , the answer is yes . Been busy with school so I'm not advancing at a fast rate + I'm learning and have to change large number of codes every time I learn something new.
Things that I added :
- Settings are now exported into their respective folder
- Trees (only 1 type with 3 different tiles for now)
- Shore
- Salt Water / Sweet Water Map
- Different player looking states (in water / swimming / climbing etc)
- Different items raw text like what it can do / if it's a tool / durability / weight etc. but no adding to the game yet since I don't have an inventory system / interface set up yet.
- Pause (Un-Pause / Save / Options / Exit)
and just some improving in performance and speed , not to much though .
I'll get some screenshots up in the link on the first message as soon as I tweak looks or prob add some more visual stuff.

Things that will be added shortly : Rivers , more map customization , the inventory system , character customization and more plants / trees.

Also sorry for my first message for using bad english , it's because it was really late and I'm just to lazy to fix ^^.

Traditional Roguelikes (Turn-based) / Thrive
« on: May 20, 2013, 05:38:31 PM »
Name - Thrive
Developer - Alhadrian, in C++.
Version - Pre-Alpha
Type- Survival RogueLike
Map- Finit Island-Generator currently at the maxim of 500x500 but as my skills progress I want to go as far as making a great sea around and giving you the option to leave the island in hope that you'll reach other island or even main-land with the price of living on the sea for a while which for some can be a real challenge .
Graphics - 50x50 Tiles . 15x15 Tiles (for now) viewable map  . 1000x720p only for now but again this may change

Description:

Thrive is a turn-based(for now), top-down, survival roguelike currently in pre-alpha. There is a large focus on simulation, survival and openness. There are no classes; there are no levels. Progression of your character depends on individual skill and stat gains by your interactions with items or objects in the world. You are free to play and explore the game in any fashion you wish. Thrive will continue to grow, expand, and evolve over time to open up new modes of play, add depth and complexity, add content, and further refine the systems presented

You are a survivor of a plane crash that happen by the time of the World War II events .Life has given you a second chance but from now you're a castaway on a remote island and there's little chance that you'll be found any soon so you must do anything to survive , and in the end Thrive.
At the beginning of a typical game, you'll find yourself on the beach of the an unfamiliar island, carrying no food no water and basic 5 random equipment .

The immediate concern is survival. The player character needs food to survive, which can be obtained through hunting, fishing, foraging or by hard working on relationship with the natives (if there are some). Water is also a concern , maybe even bigger than shelter which is also a good things to have .

You will probably spend some time exploring the surrounding world. During your travels, you can encounter a variety of animals (some dangerous, some not), friendly natives and and the occasional hostile warrior of the Kapua tribe (who compete with the other people for hunting grounds). You may discover villages, where you can trade with the inhabitants, find healers to tend to your wounds or sages to teach you mystic rituals, and caves, which make convenient shelters from the weather (but may be already inhabited).

Character advancement in the game is based on a skill system. Your character has a number of attributes, which stay constant, but skills may improve through use.

The game is open-ended - there is no real goal beyond survival, and a game continues until your character dies, that if I chose not to be able to get rescued.
