7DRLs / Dead Horizons Roguelike (7DRL 2017)
« on: March 04, 2017, 10:30:39 PM »
Hey all,

This will be my 7th 7DRL , holy cow! It was 7drl that actually taught me how to finish something, so thanks!

A wild-west-in-space roguelike with a focus on cover-based ranged combat.
I plan to start around 2pm EST on Sunday the 5th.

This year, I am working with game writer Matthew Ritter, and the whole thing is based on a story he wrote! We are using 7DRL to feel out the possibility of a larger long-term project.

The opening story:

It's a harsh world of desert, dust, and sadness.

If the sun and the sand don't kill you,
the blood vultures and water poachers will.

You're the last survivor of the town of Prospect.

Corpses behind you, maps and notes in hand,
You must take them back to civilization.

Even if everywhere you look...
...are dead horizons.

Good luck everyone!

OK, this game is no longer in the "Early Dev" category. Where do I put it after today?

...aaaannnddd.... 4 months late to the party, I'd like to put forth my game "Curse of Yendor", a true modern roguelike for PC and Android, which you can try for free. It's coming to Steam in 2017, and I'd like more feedback :)

Hey, hi, thanks a lot! Glad you are playing. Sorry it took me over a month to get back to this thread...

"ease of use" was always a major design point for this game (and my previous RL), so glad to hear it's working :)

And the game is Greenlit now, so it will be coming to steam in Q1 2017.

The link for this still comes up when I visit rogue temple. Is it still a thing?

As stated above,
Curse of Yendor is now in Steam Greenlight.

I know we all think there aren't enough actual roguelikes on steam, so please take a minute and vote for this one!

The graphical update is (mostly) complete, the beta tests are done, the Android and Amazon versions have been released, the free demo is available, and it just needs your 'yes' votes!

A lot has happened with the curse of yendor the past month

For one thing I'm writing this with  speech-to-text software cause I broke my elbow . That's really slowing things down

On October 21st curse of yendor was the subject of the Rogue like dev feedback Friday. I got a lot of good Insight from roguelike players and have made some changes and put things on my to-do such as a Mac and Linux build

Lots of new features have been implemented and the game will be coming to steam green light soon . there aren't enough roguelikes on Steam so when the time comes please vote Yes

If you haven't played curse of yendor yet there is a free demo available for PC and the Android beta is back for a limited time

Hi, SmashRiot, welcome to the Temple...

I have to commend you for the phrase "with rogue-lite elements". No unfounded claims being made here. Just a detailed post about a beautiful game.

(I know this developer, we do shows together in the DC area... great guy and very dedicated. Dr. Spacezoo is a very popular game at live events.)

The beta is coming along nicely, and I am implementing player feedback. The next version is scheduled for October 1st.

Here are some recent screenshots:

Hi, Lord_Mork, thanks for taking a look.

It does not technically need those permissions. it does not form any kind of internet connection at all. It's just some default options i compiled with.

That being said , it might be nice in the future to have some sort of leaderboards. most gold, most damage with a war hammer, most damage with fireballs, most trees burned, etc.

Players definitely have some influence, especially at this point in development.

The feedback I am most interested in is "ease of use" concerns:
are the buttons well laid out for your mobile device?
are they responsive?
would you prefer some different control scheme?
etc.

I've already gotten lots of good notes from a previous closed PC beta, and I'm in the process of taking the game to the proverbial "next level" :)

Hi, Aleksanderus ,

Glad you like the look of it.

Please note that the 2-week time-limited android beta is free. It will stop working October 1st.
It will be a paid app.

The lifetime PC version is currently $3.99 , and will increase in price upon full release.
It will also have more features than currently available.

Hi, Getter, Thanks for the constant encouragement throughout the years!
I will do something special for ARRP ;)

...

They have a website now to end the "roguelike" argument LOL: http://bp.io/howroguelike/

Here's results for "Curse":

(To be fair, I checked "keyboard only" , which you can absolutely do, including vi, but you can also play conveniently with the mouse)

Ok, it's been a few months since the original post here, and now...

"Curse of Yendor" is available on Steam!

It's a (mostly-)classical roguelike with terrain deformation, highly tactical combat, and mini-quests as its main themes.

The game is feature-complete, crash free, and winnable (and losable).

Here are some screenshots:
