There is a growing number of russians in Finland. They are keen to buy land which is possible for foreigners in Finland. I can't blame them, because who wouldn't want to leave Russia? It's a bad country, lots of crime etc. Finland in contrast is peaceful and it's rare that you even run into a criminal situation. Also I think it's easy to come in Finland, because we don't have strict policy to forbid foreigners just moving in. Anyone can do that. It's just that one day there will be no finnish people here, only russians and somalis.

Sounds like a plan!

Feels like a line got crossed.

Surely they must understand that it will then be like Russia, so what they are going to do then? They need to look at the mirror and ask why Russia sucks so much. You can't just invade every country, because it doesn't solve the original problem.

In particular I would recommend "The Sneetches," as well as "What Was I Scared Of?" (The latter sometimes erroneously referred to as "Pale Green Pants.")
We should probably both read "The Zax."
-
Agree, Sneetches is a fine documentary, relevant in its time, and as Krice's post demonstrates, relevant today.
-
Sneetches? That was just Dr. Seuss predicting goths.

Reality check. In Russia the police is so corrupted that people have to keep a camera on their car recording their driving so that they can later prove that they didn't drive too fast or whatever. How much a country can suck if you need to do something like that? Another funny story is when russians come in Finland and they have guns shooting rubber bullets (and they have also other weapons). You can't be armed with stuff like that in Finland so they are taken away in border, but russians don't realize it, because it's normal in their country to carry weapons in case someone attacks. It's crazy, but that's how things are in Russia.

What do you do In Finland when someone attacks? You kindly ask them to stop or what?

We don't have that kind of culture where everyone can be a potential enemy which is the case in countries like Russia and USA. If someone attacks he is usually mentally ill or something like that. Of course if someone would attack me I would grab him and put him on ground, and then call officials to take him away. You have to understand that we are more advanced as human beings than let's say russians, who are primitive. We don't attack, rob, kill etc. people just like that, like russians do.

I think it's much easier when you own a gun. Programmers don't put bad guys on ground unless they know judo or something like that. But if they train judo, they don't have time for programming. That's it, programmers can't put anybody on ground.

If my memory serves right, Finland was one of the few countries which actually successfully stopped an invasion attempt of the russian army.
Some Finns even can look at you in ways so that feel a strong urge to run away screaming.
The Soviets possessed more than three times as many soldiers as the Finns, thirty times as many aircraft, and a hundred times as many tanks. The Red Army, however, had been crippled by Soviet leader Joseph Stalin's Great Purge of 1937, reducing the army's morale and efficiency shortly before the outbreak of the fighting.
[...]
Because of these factors, and high morale in the Finnish forces, Finland was able to resist the Soviet invasion for far longer than the Soviets expected.
Hostilities ceased in March 1940 with the signing of the Moscow Peace Treaty. Finland ceded 11% of its pre-war territory and 30% of its economic assets to the Soviet Union.
Edit: I'm not from Finland myself.

But if that for some reason happens, we can sit on top of them and they have no chance of getting back up :P

Finnish courts continue stealing children from russian mothers. The only thing i don't understand - why are Russia don't do anything more serious then sending armed tourists buying lands.
-

Yes it was. So I'm wondering what has happened to Finns.
1939 - resisting Russian tanks.
2013 - crying because some Russians came with toy guns.
-
Finnish courts continue stealing children from russian mothers.
There is no drama in this. We have extremely strict laws to protect children from bad parents. Children from finnish parents also get taken away if any problems are detected. Again, I think what has happened is the difference in culture and russian parents think they can beat crap out of their children as they do in Russia. It's a bad idea in Finland.

Russia is going to arrest "openly" gay tourists. And they condemned in court a guy that had been dead for a while. Wonderful country.
-
I'm starting to like Russia.
-
I'd add that Russia is VERY big. It's rather misleading to put all russian people in a very narrow category.
Yes, there are criminal regions in most big cities. But there are a lot of peaceful regions too.
I haven't encountered 'crime in action' in my whole life.
I seriously doubt that there is absolutely no crime in Finland.
Quote from 'crime and safety report':
Visitors should exercise the same common sense security practices as would be used when visiting any large city in the United States. Visitors traveling to Helsinki during the summer months should exercise increased security awareness when transiting the airport, walking in crowded downtown areas, or using public transportation. Professional pick-pockets from other neighboring countries come to Helsinki to target unsuspecting tourists, who have let down their guard and thereby become soft targets of opportunity. During the late evening hours, travelers are advised to remain vigilant when in proximity of the downtown train station area and the Kaisaniemi Park. Occasional assaults do occur in these areas.
So I guess it's the same as in every other big city - downtown is more or less safe and outskirts are more or less dangerous.
I don't know why russian are buying lands in Finland. I haven't heard about any kind of hype about this.
-
So I guess it's the same as in every other big city
It's not like that. However I must say that it's gone worse, since Finland has taken influence from other countries and besides there are growing number of foreigners who in fact do most of crime in this country. We have some violence, but we don't have that robbing style of culture which is normal in many countries. If one of my countrymen would try to rob me I would be like "what the hell man?" It's not part of our culture to do that, we are too friendly to other people. We have a high level of social security so everyone has money, there is no need to steal anything. Although even that has changed to worse and we have EU to blame for that. We should never have joined that damn EU, because as country we were much better than any other country in EU and now they want to drag us into their level.

I'm starting to like Russia.
Don't be a tool bag dude. Lots of cool people are gay.
EDIT: KRICE! Don't be scared man. There will be some friction, some lack of assimilation especially if things proceed too quickly, but things will be alright.
-
Don't be a tool bag dude. Lots of cool people are gay.
They aren't so cool to me.
-
And that has very little to do with them.
-
I'm starting to like Russia.
Get out.
-
They aren't so cool to me.
Well...Maybe we could talk about this. What are your reasons for disliking gay people?
And, just to be clear, I don't think there is anything wrong with being gay at all.
-
I think Russia should attack Finland, then we give up and join mother Russia. The reason is that Russia doesn't take refugees from Syria or elsewhere, right? Then we wouldn't have to take them either. And not only that, as a russian person I could find my russian wife! The perfect plan.
-
What are your reasons for disliking gay people?
On the one hand, they present [subjectively] unpleasant deviation. On the other hand, they reduce competition.
-
I'm from Russia and it s very interesting to read your thoughts about Russia %)
1) I can assure you that there is no plans about Finland at all. Its not a priority and wouldn't be one in foreseeable future
2) Not all Russian dislike gays. I cant tell precisely, but I think at least 30% (especially people in big cities) is quite tolerant to them. But better do not show if you are gay, "caming out" could cost loss of your job & etc.
-
Don't be a tool bag dude. Lots of cool people are gay.
They aren't so cool to me.
Eat shit.
-
I dislike gays a little bit, because they design men's clothes. You all know what I'm talking about. Why can't we get men design actually cool looking clothes for men?
-
1) I can assure you that there is no plans about Finland at all.
I was thinking about this and suddenly it was clear. Of course there is no plan for that, because Finland is not important part of Russian's plan to attack EU. I have seen this in my dreams, which is a talent inherited from a shaman ancestor. Russia is going to attack with nuclear bombs to erase the hardest opposition in countries like UK and then end the rule of EU. I mean, they have to attack, there is no other way. I also believe that US (Nato) will not help EU, because it would be the end of world as we know it.
-

Don't worry, Krice. It is not a priority but it indeed on the list. There is no plans because we did not get this far on that list, yet. Be patient.

Ugh...perhaps weird, but somehow seeing a meme here is much more offensive to me than any opinion-based garbage this thread is full of.
The Temple forum is probably the last place on the internet free from this modern malady...please...have mercy :P

It's poor dialog to claim something is "garbage" without explaining why. I'm actually not really concerned about the future, because as a clever person I know it's going to suck. I'm also not on anyone's side on these matters, but I think it's realistic to say that no one knows what Russia is going to do. I think Americans are easier, because we know they are planning to create a dystopian future with megacorporations and rich people replacing political power. It's so obvious and in some ways already in action. But at the same time I'd like to think that people are getting enough of this fighting for power. I believe we don't need it anymore.

Dear sir, I'm greatly sorry that I somehow offended your tender feelings ;D
Anyway it wasn't meme, but question - are you guys serious about Russian threat? :) Its just propadanda (at both sides) and its goal to divert people's attention from real problems in economy and social sphere.

You're hot and bothered by an image macro but you don't care about gay-bashing upthread...

And you fail to observe the sarcasm and recognise that perhaps the phrase "opinion-based garbage" might relate exactly to homophobia, racism and any other crap that "this thread is full of"?
Way to come out of retirement buddy.

I think this thread is getting even better with those meme pics.
I like Russia's plan to wipe out terrorists in Syria. It's good that someone is trying. I think EU should have sent like all the troops in Syria right away to settle things in there before the outbreak of refugees. Now Russia is trying to get credits, because we didn't do anything.

Big news on that front. I've been working with Frito-Lay on an endorsement deal. Though we may need to scrap the name "Mushroom Patch Simulator" in favor of "Doritos Presents: Tortilla Chip Simulator, the Roguelike," I don't feel that this will compromise the artistic integrity of the project. Through it all, I've maintained complete creative control.
Be looking for a release next 7DRL challenge!
-
Got to love Doritos. I'm just glad you get the possibility to pursue your aesthetic-philosophical goals in this harsh day and age of the games industry. When producing the accompanying snacks, though, be sure not to put actual nureongi in the blink dog flavored variants. I think the Bizkup had some problems with current EU regulations as he was signing the deal for Kobold McNuggets.

Today I went to shop (do you say "went to shop"?) and I'm driving bicycle, because I don't have a car. When I got there I saw three russians outside, eating ice cream near the bicycle stand. The way things work in small villages of Finland is that you never lock your bike, there is no reason to do that. Nothing ever is stolen, you could leave anything anywhere. Unless of course some foreigners happen to catch your bike like polish people who according to my theory are actually aliens from outer space and they need to steal bikes to build a new space ship.
Anyway, my first thought was that when I come back from the shop they have stolen my bike. But to my surprise the bike was there when I got back. I guess they were too old to steal bikes, because they were about 50-60 years old people.
In bigger cities you have to lock your bike, because there are more foreigners there and also because the big city culture is similar to elsewhere, even cities of Finland are really small compared to any other country.
-
I think these were russians again. I saw a group of six people walking in our yard. Well, it's a kind of path-looking thing going near the road, but anyway. These people followed the path to a small patch of forest which isn't part of our yard (but probably will be later). For a moment I was like what the fuck, but then I realized they must be tourists and most likely from Russia. The thing is that the yard in Finland is something we don't share with other people. It's extremely rude to walk in someone else's yard, but luckily for tourists we don't have a habit to shoot strangers like americans do. And I get it, russians are not known for their good manners.
-
I was walking with my dog and saw someone ahead walking very slowly with a bag in his hand. I was already thinking he is drunk and my suspicion was confirmed when I heard him talking russian. I think he was talking to himself or in phone. When I passed him he took somewhat angry look at me, but you know me, I can look back the same way. Russians are a simpler lifeform compared to other peoples.

Better watch out, Krice. The FSB might recruit you as a Russian troll. :-X
