Title: Valhalla (Now at Alpha Build 54)
Post by: getter77 on May 03, 2012, 12:23:31 PM
http://iniquitatis.narod.ru/projects/valhalla.html   Formerly Zero Player Game

Well the site is pretty spartan, the discussion forum seemingly Russian, and the file size incredibly small, but the dev pace appears to be pretty lively of late.  Alpha, closed source, FreeBASIC, and Windows at the least though.

Fresh info:

Quote
ZPG is a program in which the user selects a name and a class for a generic hero character, and the program proceeds to use this data to show a projection of their progress in the form of a character sheet that updates every second.

The entire game is displayed in blue ASCII. However, the font color can be changed in settings.

The character sheet shows:

    Character Name
    Character Class
    Character Level
    Character Experience
    Character Stats
        Strength
        Agility
        Intelligence
Damage being dealt with current Stats and Equipment
    Defence
    HP
    MP
    Inventory
    Time Elapsed
    Current Currency (Gold)

Upon levelling, the character recieves some random new equipment and a few stat bonuses

Well, perhaps the strangest roguelike I've encountered so far...
Wonders if the author aims for non-playing-roguelike or if it's just temporary...  ::)

On the other hand, who knows how fun Progress Quest was back when it was in Alpha state?   :P

As such, I'm going to reckon the journey and destination to this is going to be a bit different indeed considering.

The game is now called Valhalla, and Build 53 constitutes a rewrite from scratch---VERY apparent as per the latest screenshots for the version.   8)

Why are some devs so uninventive and not checking things when it comes to names? There was already a roguelike named Valhalla, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ragnarok_%28video_game%29

Yes, I was excited when I saw this topic because I thought someone was actually updating Valhalla. But no. Different Valhalla.

This is why generic titles are a bad idea. It's not that hard to choose a title that's unlikely to be shared by another game, or at least another roguelike!
