You can connect using a variety of IRC programs. The popular, like mIRC, or my favorite irssi.
The server is irc.quakenet.org port 6667, room #rgrd.
Feel free to stop by to talk about anything. You don't have to talk about Roguelikes or anything else. It's a general channel for the community.

Aother IRC channel to add to my list :P
-
I've never used irc. Maybe I'm too old to get it..
-
Wohoo! It got posted as news!
I idle a lot in the channel, so it might be a bit boring at first. Hopefully eventually we'll get a few other idlers aside from myself.
-
I'll be in there pretty much all the time too now
-
We've gotten a good five people, so there's actually someone to talk to now. Just thought I'd mention.
-
Yeah, it slowly grows... tell your fellow roguelikers about it!
-
weee!
-
Only reason to use irc would be that then I could join Irc gallery and send comments to beautiful girls.
-
What is the new channel you dudes are in? rln is empty

Well, I think some people use #rgrd on QuakeNet.
-
Unbelievable, no one thought to mention the change in channel here?
(Edit: March? How'd it show as a new reply?)
-
Since I'm on IRC pretty much all the time anyway I think I'll drop in.
-
Edited to remove confusion.
-
Welcome back!
And nice signature ;)

After a long and terrible time offline, #rln on irc.esper.net is back online! I was away from IRC for some time for personal reasons, but since I'm back now, the channel is open again if anyone wants to join. It's a fairly low volume chatroom, so it might be totally inactive when you log on. But feel free to log on anytime!
Just join #rgrd on quakenet - right now there are 13 of us (+3 bots) on it vs. 2 (+1 bot) on #rln.

A IRC client is not really necessary, a linemode internet client (such as netcat) will also work. I use netcat to connect to IRC.
If you have never used IRC before, here is a list of some the most useful commands in IRC (command names are not case sensitive):- USER allows you to login and identify
- NICK tells the nickname you want to use (required for login, you might be able to change it later also)
- JOIN join a channel
- PRIVMSG send a message to a channel or to a user
- PART unjoin a channel
- QUIT disconnect from IRC
- NAMES lists logged in users (also displayed when you join a channel)
- PONG respond to a PING message (if you are not using a IRC client that does this automatically)
Now you can learn how to use IRC!

That's pretty hardcore :)
More on topic, good to know that there is such IRC channel. Some day I'll have time to drop by.

I tried to connect to quakenet with the webclient but it only opens the commands/server window and it doesn't open the chat channel? Although I can see people talking from the channel I cannot type messages it only accept commands?
Edit: Wait, works now, but maybe you have to log in with a user to have the channel tab open?

This is still running! You can connect using your browser via https://kiwiirc.com/ for instance :D
