Welcome to the rest of your life.

Take a look at this topic (http://www.roguetemple.com/forums/index.php?topic=45.0)! That's the voice of the players! And yes, I find those are the two best roguelikes out there :)
However, those are only the biggies! There are tons of fun ones, which are smaller and less complex, or just starting but at least as complex as the most known ones!
You can try Incursion, AliensRL, The Hive, and IVAN. I ---love--- IVAN, but all the other ones are really, nice too!
It's a world out there! Well, several ones :P
Each of them better than WOW! *flee*

Yep, there are a lot. The big five are ADOM, Nethack, Angband, Crawl, and...another one. Moria? Omega? Who knows.
Angband has a lot of variants too; probably the biggest and best is ToME. Incursion is another new roguelike; very complex, very difficult.
Plus you have all of your up and coming developers making roguelikes.
Here's a pretty comprehensive list of every roguelike:

Looks like we have a similar background in games, Tidus. I've played Rogue and Nethack quite a bit but never won either game, and I've played a little Crawl too. I've tried ADOM but I never get very far into it; sometime I need to give it a more serious look.

Thanx Gamer :D Ill keep an eye out for those. I prefer either simple to learn and hard to beat type of games and the the really hard to learn (complex games) and also hard to beat :D
and thanx for the nice list ;)

Cool ;D I have yet to beat Rogue, then probably move onto ToME or crawl types.

You will NOT beat Rogue :)
Better change that goal else you wont end up trying any other rouguelike! ;)
-
Thanx for the tip :P But im pretty determined ;D Now I wonder, how many people actually beat it :-\

Glenn Wichman, one of the creators, has never made it. I once took the amulet via a LOT of savescumming, but couldnt take it back to the surface. You just need a LOT of luck. Dont be fooled to think a character with lucky equipment will do it well, dont think you are on the way just because you got a 2 handed sword and 3 sets of plate mail on level 1. it just doesnt matter
-
True but as you go up do the monsters change back to the original ones found there, like you climb up to lvl 8 so you wont be seeing dragon at all or is it diffrent :P Guessing it's harder than what i think.
-
I dont remember, but given how evil the game is, I doubt it :)

There are some nice rogue anecdotes, maybe even some tales of victory, at http://www.wichman.org/roguestories.html

Wow, thanks for the link! This is definitively interesting for all the Rogueophiles out there :P
