http://aksysgames.com/shiren/overview/ PS VITA $39.99 standard $59.99 Limited Edition
Climb the Tower of Fortune and Challenge Reeva, the God of Destiny!
After stopping the revival of a demon god at the Magic Castle of the Desert, Shiren and Koppa set off in search of new adventures. Soon thereafter, our heroes wandered into small village. This village, Inori, has a legend that claims, “If you climb the Tower of Fortune that soars above the enchanted land and face Reeva, the god of Destiny, you can change your fate.” Shiren and Koppa, having confirmed many mysterious legends throughout their journeys, decide to embrace this new challenge.
Is there really an entity determining peoples’ fates? And is it possible for a person to change their fate? What adventures await Shiren and his friends in the tower…?
The infinitely replayable dungeon-crawling RPG makes its debut on PlayStation®Vita system!
The challenge that awaits Shiren and his friends will challenge is the “Mysterious Dungeon”. It is a dungeon that changes its layout as well as the item and monster placement on subsequent replays. From formidable monsters to dangerous traps, players will learn to overcome the various obstacles that stand in opposition to Shiren. This title also boasts a variety of additional new dungeons! With widescreen support, PlayStation®TV support, and trophies the PlayStation®Vita system version of Shiren is jam-packed with features!
Been quite some years since a Shiren game made it over---bound to be great by all indications! 8)

How was Shiren the Wanderer for Wii received by the roguelike community? I bought it on ebay last year, but still haven't played it.

Will there ever be a mature japanese roguelike?...

Wii Shiren enjoyed a mixed reception, but still overall positive if I remember right.

Did you ever try Shiren for SNES, though? I'd say that's a pretty accomplished game, although maybe not "mature" in the "everything + the kitchen sink"-sense. John Harris did an inspired piece (http://www.gamesetwatch.com/2008/03/play_the_delights_of_mystery_d.php) about it some years ago. For something more humongous, I'd check out Elona (which I haven't given a serious go, but it seems utterly crazy from what I've read).
As always,

I've been playing it obsessively since it came out, the earlier stages of the game can be a bit of a grind (ie perhaps a bit easy) but as you ascend into the higher levels of the dungeon it will demoralize you!
there's also a neat multiplayer component to it which allows you to request someone else to come into your dungeon to save you if you've fallen. Unfortunately for me I don't have any friends on my vita who play this, so if anyone out there wants more PSN friends, maybe we could post our usernames on here.

Also, SpikeChunsoft currently is doing a poll on Twitter about potential projects to bring over on PC as well and Shiren here IS in the list among the few choices so...you know...
