Title: Help finding an old game
Post by: sammcmackin on September 15, 2009, 04:12:25 PM
Has anyone played an old roguelike game called Hero? I loved that game! I was wondering if anyone can help me find a place to download it.

This is the actual game but the download location is dead.
http://downloads.ugo.com/download.php?gameid=245

I know it was updated to at least version 1.2, but 1.0 is still playable.

Any help would be great!

Second link.  I'm not sure if this is it, but it looks like it.  Same developer as what was on the page you posted.
Edit:  Looks like the links are 404 too.  Sorry.  :(

Edit2:  http://www.programfiles.com/Default.asp?LinkId=11031 (requires sign up, so I don't know if it works)

Edit3:  I googled the term below and got about 2 pages of results.  I don't know how many are dead links though.

Hero is a "16 color dungeon" adventure game

This man is also named Brad Miller, and is a programmer as well. Could it be the right Brad Miller? I have no idea. His website doesn't have hero hosted on it that I can find. But you could contact via his e-mail address on the website, or through the forum:

The Brad Miller who is Windowpaene is not the Brad Miller who programmed the game Hero.

Too bad  :'(

Vista sure doesn't like this game! I'll need to move it over to my XP comp in order to relive the glory days.

Thanks a lot Slash!!  ;D

Have you tried running it in DosBox?

Excellent work Slash!   8)

At a glance, hunting for a patch up to 1.2 or some such looks like it'll be a tough proposition...

This game is kind of interesting.  Your power is almost entirely determined by your equipment, and when you level up your fighting or armor skills, you actually level up your ability to equip better items.

The extra speed starting ability seems so strong as to be broken, but I took the infravision one for the sake of convenience.

Each enemy type on each floor apparently has randomly assigned weaknesses, resistances, and immunities, so if you do zero damage to everything, that's why - it's possible for them to be completely immune to hand to hand attacks .
