Title: My LP channel (Shameless self promotion)
Post by: Jennimason on September 05, 2013, 09:18:54 PM
Yeah, yet another roguelike LPer, it's fun!
Have been at it a little while (a few complete projects) but haven't really promoted my channel much.
So far I've done:
Rogue (5.4.4)
DoomRL
Dwarf Fortress (0.34.10, adventure mode, my first project, horrible quality)
Brogue
and Nlarn
(all completed, all in ASCII, Next project hasn't started yet but should soon barring any technology issues.)

Link is https://www.youtube.com/rogueswonderland

I've done some one-of videos of non roguelikes and may start doing full projects that are not roguelikes in the future but those are hardly relevant to this forum.

Hope you stop by!

EDIT: I read every comment!
Also a finished project does not mean I beat the game! I'm not good at roguelikes by any means, I've only properly beaten two! (If you want to find out if any of those are on camera you'll have to watch I guess :P)

Yeah, near as I can tell it's the first on youtube? If not the others are very hard to find.  :)

It's because no one wants to cast the requisite number of Magic Missiles  :P

It's funny that I coincidentally decided to join the Temple forum a couple of weeks after I stumbled across your channel.

I tend not to watch LPs of games I play myself, but I've watched most of your Brogue and Nlarn episodes. I'm curious to see what you do next.

I don't blame them, my knuckles started to hurt after some of those episodes. Totally worth it, Nlarn is a great game, even if magic isn't balanced well.

Neat :) Hope you liked the vids you've watched! Next project should start very soon. (Ideally tomorrow, but no promises, I'm horrible at keeping to schedule.)

Offensive magic (the elemental ones are even more powerful than magic missile) was the basis of my victory when I played NLarn; the other important element (IIRC) was good body armour so that I could weather all of those long fights in the early game.

The other offensive spells are stronger, but magic missle is dirt cheap as well, and it easily spammable.

Yep. A couple of versions ago magic missile was even more powerful, but the dev nerfed it (not quite enough) after I emailed...

Yeah I remembered it being even more unbalanced but when I downloaded the game again for the LP it seemed a bit weaker. Not that I'm complaining, but it could do with another nerf.

Agreed. I tried to get the rate of weapon destruction decreased too, but he only fixed the bug that lets artefact weapons get destroyed. Accuracy in this game is a bit insane :>

Magic is so good that after a couple floors, weapon breaking stops being an issue anyway. :)

Definitely the only way to win! Would be nice to have a fix, though.

It would be nice. I would like weapons to be at least kinda useful in the mid/end game... or at least the early game! They basically become worthless as soon as you get magic missile!

It's so cute when girls play roguelikes and other games. It's also interesting to watch those videos, somehow.

Heeey, I resent that! I am a woman!

On topic, do you know what the next project will cover?

Not yet, I don't plan my projects in advance, I usually decide during the last couple episodes of the current project. Crawl just started so I have no idea what comes next.

Edit: I also don't usually record far in advance - I record on the same day I upload whenever I can, which is why the editing is minimal, and tends to make things worse in my older episodes!

Please don't, Krice. Just STFU and spare yourself the humiliation for once, you're not being witty here, just obnoxious.

As always,
Minotauros

Edit: Having said that, I'm not going to pursue that particular discussion in this thread. If you want a flamewar, Krice, feel free to start a new thread ;)

It's just cute, I'm not masturbating to them or anything like that.

Sexist detours aside, I didn't mention before but I don't do requests, if you have a game you want to suggest to me I'll look at it and consider it for a future project though, provided:
It works on (slackware) linux or runs well in wine, Linux is what I play and record on, and I don't have access to or use windows or OSX.
and
It has simple graphics, ASCII prefered, my computer is pretty old, so no fancy graphics or animations, I can't record with them, I can barely get them to run without recording.

I would suggest making a LP of the Veins of the Earth. A friend said he'd make a Linux standalone, but I don't know if it would run on your machine, as it uses the T-Engine (although is MUCH less graphical than ToME itself).

Personally I think it's best if you stick to the games you want to LP. Enjoying it is the most important part.

I probably shouldn't have said that. It didn't occur to me that he might actually elaborate. It was meant to be aloof disdain.

Yeah, that's why I don't take requests really. Suggestions are welcome because it can help me find fun games I may have overlooked or not heard of, but if I don't have fun with it I don't want to LP it.

Jennimason, do you think your computer can run T-Engine + Veins of the Earth?

I'm not sure, Tome4 runs okayish when not recording so it might work.

Crawl will be ending soon, after that probably Unreal world will be up next. My upload schedule has been a bit of a mess lately do to health issues but I still record and upload when I can. :)

Edit: Unreal World started a couple days ago while the forum was still down!

So far Unreal World has been an interesting series. Not as easy to watch as Crawl or Nlarn due to the depth and complexity of URW, but since I can't play URW with any degree of even basic proficiency, it's nice to have the chance to live vicariously. :P

Yeah URW has a bit of a learning curve to it, once you get past the somewhat awkward interface and learn the basics of how to survive it is really fun though. It is a bit like Dwarf Fortress in that respect, hard to get into but once you do it's a great way to lose months of your life.
