Title: Demonhunt
Post by: zasvid on August 27, 2013, 06:44:27 PM
After a streak of recent mentions of Demonhunt I've decided to check it out (and it turned out to be the game I enjoyed when it was at version 1.0 (well, technically it was at 1.3, but I distincly remember the then-newest release's link being dead back then)) and it's (still) quite enjoyable.

However, help menu doesn't work and as far as I can see there's only a strategy guide available on the Demonhunt webpage I wonder if someone could edify me on the level-up choices.

Agreed, after seeing it mentioned a couple of times (notably in the "current favourite roguelikes" topic) I gave Demonhunt a go today. It has a lot going for it. I'm impressed. I haven't played enough to be able to give you an advice though. (As an aside, I know this is a superficial point but I enjoy the over-the-top sound effects.)

Yes. Love the design. Glad you guys are digging it as much as I did. I have no comment on the level up choices...:-)

I reassessed my initial position - help works, but it's just the keybindings. I can't say I'm a fan of the "figure out how everything works yourself" approach here...

Got to agree that 'hide the ball' is not my favorite design principal...

Personally I haven't run into many things so far that have been tricky to figure out, but I agree that it's basically just good sense to include some degree of useful help.

I do want to say, though, that DemonHunt might be my new favourite roguelike.

From a design standpoint it is incredibly smooth.

You could add the procedural monsters and other gutsy principals from Random Realms and have a real piece of dynamite. I think.
