Title: 7DRLC2013 (Lack of) Ideas Thread
Post by: XLambda on February 02, 2013, 05:05:10 PM
Still haven't got an idea for this year's 7DRL? Look here! Let us lament our lack of ideas together!

Sources for ideas:
Last year's idea thread (http://roguetemple.com/forums/index.php?topic=2221.0)
2009's idea thread (http://www.roguetemple.com/forums/index.php?topic=320.0)
7DRL.org post with ideas (http://7drl.org/2012/02/17/7drl-contest-ideas/)

I had an idea for the last six months or so, but feel increasingly uncomfortable with it. I guess it's because I realized that the only unique thing about it would be the theme. That, and I suck at ideas anyway.

Best thing for ideas is to go play last year's 7DRLs  :)

I have great ideas for like five games, but I can't start any of them until K is ready. Some of them are not roguelikes..

I think there was another idea thread somewhere... but I cannot find it. Maybe I was wrong.

I seem to have no good ideas for now (well, I have some, but I am not very convinced about them). But it would be nice if someone tried to create a 7DRL with NotEye :)

I have fairly well fleshed out ideas for another edition of cardlike, a zelda/gauntlet inspired dungeon shooter (Dungeon Bang), a comic action RL (The Littlest Princess), a Berzerk rip off (Gunfist: Gaiden), an NES consol inspired squad RL (Killing is My Business) and a follow up to Sun Crusher so extensive it will probably need to be rewritten from scratch.

And about 30 other gaming ideas of about 2-5 pages each. And about that many solid, fleshed out cardgame ideas. As well as about a dozen fully outlined novels.

I seem to be good at the idea part. It's the execution man, that's the sticking point.

Ideas are important, yet pretty irrelevant :P

However, I find it fancy to read ideas from other people, specially when they go into detail... no matter if they never get made into something, they put your imagination to fly.

After all, that's what hobbyist game development is about... dreaming of making an idea come true (and managing to achieve it if you are lucky)

I feel that same way. Thinking of the ideas is pretty fun. I just wish I had more 'finish' in me. I have loads of time but don't seem to get much done.

Getting more 'finish' seems to be the main point of 7DRLs.
