I recently aquired an old laptop running Windows 98 se. It's really not much good for anything other than playing some older dos game and was hoping to play some roguelikes on it. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to want to run quite a few. Like Quickband, Nlarn, and Stone Soup or Crawl Light don't seem to want to work. :(
Anyone know if there is a way to get these to run on win 98 se or any other good ones that can run on it besides the big classics like Nethack, Adom, etc?

Compile roguelikes that have sources. That will make them much more likely to work. Problems you experience are probably caused by stuff getting linked against newer version of system libraries. Which you don't have there.
Would you check if newest PRIME runs on that veteran laptop please? I am very curious.

Just tried Prime and it does not seem to work. I just get a blank screen with a blinking underscore cursor around the bottom right corner. The game never actually starts.
And I don't know how to compile source codes for games.
I noticed libtcod games don't start at all.
The slimmy lichmummy works though.

Gruesome, Toby the Trapper and UNSTOPPABLE should all work :)
