Dear community,
I hereby (somewhat sadly) announce the release of
JADE 0.2.2 at http://www.adom.de/jade/downloads/javawebstart/index.php
JADE 0.2.2 is the second bugfix release in the 0.2.x line and squashes especially one major bug I missed during yesterdays release (damn last minute changes).
If you are interested you can find the latest news as well as the download links for
JADE 0.2.1 and JADE 0.2.2 at the official website:
http://www.ancientdomainsofmystery.com/2011/11/jade-022-has-been-released.html
http://www.ancientdomainsofmystery.com/2011/11/jade-021-has-been-released.html
Feedback is welcome in the forums and the project management tools (for bugs and requests
for enhancements) at
http://www.adom.de/forums
Let me know what you tink, provide feedback and help to grow JADE far beyond ADOM (which
I would like to succeed with within the next nine months).
Yours truly
Thomas Biskup
ADOM & JADE Maintainer

Didn't figure out how to wear sandals I found. Should be able to do in inventory screen? I think it backwards anyway, (i) should be inventory (what you are carrying in backpack) and some other key to view/manage current equipment.
And I still hate the ridiculously fast food counter in main map.
-
It is still adom at heart, which is good and bad. You get used to the equipment screen coming up instead of the inventory.
From memory, press 'i', then press the key for footwear, then select the sandals. Assuming they fit your character size.
The food counter should be toned down in these early releases for exploration purposes. He builds a random map that you cant explore, at least with out spending your time collecting berries and fish, boring!

Immersion is a real important aspect of a game, and now there are 3 things that prevent this:
- java slowness
- the mouse pointer changing to a hourglass for a very little fraction of a second but after every move
- there's no way to toggle the constant toolbar above the screen.. it makes me feel less immersed than I was in Adom, where after hitting alt+enter I was all alone in that world
I hope those things can be solved.
I'm very, very happy you are back to work on roguelikes Thomas Biskup, I played many roguelikes and Adom has always been my favourite one and every non-rogueliker friend I talked about it is now a rogueliker.

What is that key? There is no key for footwear set when I have sandals in the inventory.
The game isn't slow in my relatively new computer, but for some reason menus are flickering each turn. I can't see any reason why they should act like that, but that seems to be the case.

My guess is that your character can not wear sandals, is it a troll? Otherwise the letter associated with boots would show up in the equipment screen. It only shows up if you have some equipment to wear/remove, TB is trying to be clever here. Other than that it could be a bug.
-
I think I was a troll. It's too clever that way, should be somehow informed that trolls can't wear something. Maybe allow wearing, but then tell that it doesn't fit.
-
I think a better plan would be to have the boots should show up in inventory (if you're a troll, gnome, etc) as "human-sized boots," at least letting the player know that they won't fit.
Presumably a human in possession of gnome-sized boots would have the same problem?

The speed issue is not really Java slowness... it was just "lots of unoptimized stuff happening in the background". The next release 0.2.3 has been optimized for speed and it now is blazingly fast... you will love that.
As for the mouse pointer and the toolbar above the screen... I'm looking into immersive UI updates for 0.2.3, too :-) That's the fine tuning a game needs to receive over time (so many things that could be done it's hard to choose the most important ones first).

Excellent!

Trying to remove JADE gives an error "it's possibly already removed". No it's not.
