I an a youtuber and wanted to know if uploading rougelike videos would be a good idea. There aren't that many Youtubers (that I know of) who upload rougelike videos and i wanted to know if it's something to upload on youtube.
-
Absolutely worth it, i'll definitely subscribe.

I'm going to upload more videos of Kaduria when I have something to show.
-
Since the poll is mostly going yes does anyone have any suggestions about any Rougelikes I should play? (Something unusual or obscure to Rougelike the genre will probably have the highest chance of getting uploaded.)
-
SewerJacks ::) - tabletop fantasy football roguelike
Temple of Vengeance – martial arts themed roguelike
Infra Arcana 5 - lovecraft/doomrl inspired roguelike
Seriously check the front page of RogueTemple for the RogueLike Round Up or RLRU :P

As long as you dont spell it like that. Nobody likes a rougelike. You will catch a ton of flak if you name the channel rougelike and not roguelike. You'll have to disable all comments lol.
-
Speak for your self, I love rougelikes. I think that the flak they get around here is totally unjustified.
I am thinking that my next 7drl will be called Rougelike. It will be a game where you have to spill as much red blood as possible (whilst avoiding the green blooded goblin-kind) in order for your goddess to emphasize her godly cheekbones with the spilled blood and obtain the attention of the King of Gods before one of her vile sisters weds him.
-
Just make sure that the video cuts back and forth between the game itself and the excited reactions of the perky young woman playing the game in a tank top. Then everyone's happy. You could see if the "Star Trek Girl" is available. Ultimately I'd recommend a well-endowed Japanese cheerleader - it'll make the front page.
-
For the first moment, I thought that roguelike youtube channel is like Charlie Chaplin Internet radio, but on the second thought It looks like worthy thing!
-
Corremn, there is already a 7drl named The Rougelike (and also POWDER which is somewhat rouge like).
As for the original question, IMO text has many advantages over video as a way to present information. Easier to create (I suppose, it would be easier with the right tools, but I don't know if such tools exist), takes less space, takes less time to learn the relevant information (because you can skip the irrelevant parts or just read quickly), searchable. I am much more likely to read text than to watch a video. Unless the video is very artistic or shows some (relevant) animations, hard to do that with text.
-
Of course with a video you get to see the game in action.
I watch lots of "Let's plays" of Roguelikes. Its a nice way to get to know a game. I would enjoy watching runs of new or less known games, preferably with someone talking about the game and explaining what's happening.
-
I'd like to see a let us play of Brogue.
-
Hmm. It sound stupid, maybe.
But what do you think about some sort of roguelike streams and VOD's?
-
Streams can be well received same as most videos. I believe there have been several such things for Dungeons of Dredmor in marathon fashion thus far---one even tied to a big all-around event with Indie interviewing going on and such.

I agree.
And InfraArcana would be cool to.
-
Its a great idea to post more videos of Roguelikes onto Youtube or other video service. There are so many Roguelikes out there and allot of times there are no screenshots or videos to show what their game is like visually. One can assume, but its better to see.

http://www.youtube.com/user/TheUberHunter This guy is doing great work, but the more the merrier and plenty of room for different styles and whatnot. DoomRL/Chaosforge offering specialist but broadening nicely to others while being a good way developers can see some rather raw first impressions.
