*Victory!* Managed to pull out another 7DRL success against all
odds. :)
Download here (http://elite-international-detective.googlecode.com/files/eid7drl.zip),
source code can be found here: http://code.google.com/p/elite-international-detective/ (http://code.google.com/p/elite-international-detective/),
if you want to continue developing it, just ping me
Very happy with the way it turned out, this may be the first year I am
content with the results, even though I could have used one more day
to provide better content for the geography and villains, and add
vehicles... but it's playable and you may even enjoy it :)
In Elite International Detective, you are an agent for the InterSleuth
Cover Detective Network, criminals all around the world strike against
the civilian population... bombings, murderers and kidnappings are
daily news. When lawful ways don't suffice, governments turn into our
agency to bring an effective solution. Travel all around the world
pursuing international criminals, bring the wrath of justice over
them!

I must thank all people that helped out with content: konijn, Geoffrey
White, Eben Howard, Oryx, burzmali and Gamer2k4. Sadly time was not
enough to include all of the content you sent me, but well, it's open
source so anybody can contribute it :)
I should also give due credit to Jacks Midi Music (http://
www.ajsmidi.com/ragtime/ragtime_1.html (http://
www.ajsmidi.com/ragtime/ragtime_1.html)), which in turns includes the
original performers and sequencers for each melody used in the game.

Cool looking entry. Certainly intriguing enough for me to download. Well, I am on Windows Vista (and Linux too); but on Vista I can never get java to be recognized by the system. I make sure my Java is up to date; I make sure I go into control panel->system->environment variables is okay. And nothing. I am forced to edit the *.bat file you provide so that it points exactly to my java.exe on my hard drive. Pain in the ass. Why can't I figure this out? I follow all the suggestions. Pisses me off.
Anyways, like I said intriguing game when I finally got it running. I was confused as how to play, but I watched yr vid and found out find clues, go to airport, get in old-school gun battles was the way. But, when I try to go to the airport, I cannot. No message, nothing.
So yeah I am interested in trying the game, but I am confused on how to proceed. Any pointers on how to get me up and running? I did not want to watch too much of the video since I don't want spoilers, etc.

Use 'm' to move between locations (from HQ to Airport, from Airport to the crime scene, etc) and 'f' to fly between cities.
You can only use 'f' while on an airport, and if you are exploring an urban area you can only use 'm' if you are in the western border.
Once in an urban area you'll see a map with marks for the starting location and "endpoint", there's also a "compass" which tells you what direction its on. Get there and get the clues to discover more places to trip to.
When you have found the criminal, kill him and return to HQ.

Thanks for the explanation. So now I have been able to kill a few bad guys, fly to different cities, and gather clues. Seems a pretty good little rl so far. Good work.
I've yet to complete a whole mission yet, but I am cobbling together better tactics: running when necessary, etc. But, I still die at their strongholds, because of their superior numbers. I tried luring them out one by one, but I was killed when I was low on health, trying to flee to fight another day.
So pretty good. Good concept and for only 7 days, good gameplay.

Thank you!
Are you running using the 'z' command? that may help you in a dire situation. Also, submachines guns are generally better right now because there's no ammo consumpthtion, although pistols and shotguns are stronger.

Are you running using the 'z' command? ...
Yes. I also used 'x' to change from 'intimidate' to 'kill' when facing hostility. Don't know what the effect is though.
Also, submachines guns are generally better right now because there's no ammo consumpthtion, although pistols and shotguns are stronger.
Good to know. I was using the machine gun. I did realize there's no ammo counter so I sprayed bullets like a good agent. ;D
By the way, good music selection for that old style feel.

You sure that it is playable? i've clicked on the program so many times, and nothing happenes. the game should be starting, but it isn't.

Please use any of the .bat files (or run java -jar xxx.jar if on linux)
-
'Java' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.
Press any key to continue . . .
...This is starting to annoy me, because this keeps coming up when i click on the batch files. I just want to be an Elite International Detective, game, what do you have against me? I use Windows 7, would that cause problems?

You need to install Java in order to play it! http://java.com/
