Not a roguelike, but a nice turn based strategy game. Are there any players here?

UFO: Alien Invasion is an open source strategy video game in which the player fights aliens that are trying to take control of the Earth. The game is heavily influenced by the X-COM series (mostly by UFO: Enemy Unknown). It is based on a modified id Tech 2 engine, and runs on Linux, Microsoft Windows, AmigaOS 4, and Mac OS X for both PPC and Intel Macs.
UFO:AI has been nominated for "Best project for Gamers" in the Sourceforge 2007 and 2008 Community Choice Awards and was positively noted by Linux Journal.

WOW!
I've always been a HUEG fan of the original X-COM !! (Prime high explosive. Place in belt. Go hunting Chryssalids)
Is this project going somewhere? I'm so going to give it a go (and may be two, four, or sixteen if it satisfies me)

It's nice game, but still very incomplete.
Campaign mode become boring quickly: only two alien races, no researches after laser\plasma, no tanks\alien tanks, no alien bases, no progress.
And 3-6 aliens per mission (even in base defense missions) imho is not enough.
Other then this everything is great.

Me too, heh heh!

Looks like the devs are willing to work hard for it, but at the moment as Kipar says it's still incomplete (but already cool).

and there is this: http://ufo2000.sourceforge.net/index.php
which just turns the old UFO into a multiplayer game :) recommended!

Before X-COM the same author had much simpler games called "Rebel Star" and "Laser Squad" (only the 2D tactics, and several fixed missions, no management), which I liked more than X-COM.
I liked their funny targetting interface, which was different than in roguelikes (in the targetting mode, each creature was shown as a circle, small creatures were small circles and large creatures were large circles, you could shoot at any pixel, some deviation was added to the direction, and the game checked which circle or wall/furniture was actually touched first by the straight line).

That map is different than in the version I have played ("Rebelstar" on CPC) :) But should be good too.

How's the UFO:AI project going?
Unfortunately for me, nothing compares to first X-Com:UFO Defense. That game is my all time favourite. The atmosphere, the combat, everything!

Slowly but steadily.
