Title: 2.1.2.0 0.2beta 2.7 1.0.1 v0.2 alpha5

Dear rogue community, you are obsessed with versions and numbers and alphas and betas.

That is all.

Oh and this: http://semver.org/

But it doesn't really make sense. For games. I think not.

I don't see any obsession. Version numbers help with bug reports, and they serve to mark progress. I expect increasing version numbers help motivate developers.

Obsessed? Not really. Or at least not everyone. Some games like Cataclysm use no official version and POWDER has just single number to increment every release.

Yes, yes. Incrementing version number is pleasant activity. A pity it lasts just a short while.

If you visit roguebasin regularly it's hard not to agree with siob to some extend - many games are labeled like "0.0.0.1 alpha 5", which feels kinda silly.

I was seriously wondering what you think about semver.org - does that make any kind of sense for games?

maybe it can be adapted...
