Title: 4DRL Success: Cardinal Quest
Post by: ido on October 28, 2010, 10:56:32 AM
Cardinal Quest is an arcade-style roguelike written entirely in javascript and running in the browser.  I started it a while ago and abandoned it, and Corey Martin (nefD) & I picked it up as our 4drl project and fleshed it out.

It is inspired by classics such as Golden Axe and the old (red-box) basic d&d.

Point your (html5-supporting*) browsers at http://www.tametick.com/cq/ and take the first steps in your *Cardinal Quest*!

This is solid.  The sprites look nice, there seems to be a lot of content for a 4DRL, and the character abilities are fun.  I like your chiptune too.  Did you make it?

I have two complaints.  First, the inventory is a little bit cumbersome.  Second, I got stuck in an inescapable area (http://img844.imageshack.us/img844/3562/frownyface.png).

Thank you!

The music is not by me, there is a link at the bottom to 4mat's (the composer) site. The sprites were also made by a friend of mine. I did make the sound effects tho. It also wasn't all made in 4 days, we started from an old abandoned project of mine and tried to finish it up in 4 days.

Yeah, both are on the todo list :)

Thanks for the feedback!

nice work! I played it till I got bored, very promising if you work on it. I found the dungeons too... tightly packed? need more corridors. better inventory management ;)
