Post by: Campi on December 15, 2007, 01:35:48 AM
hi, sry i write bad english (germanxD)

iam 22, yesterday i found this game dwarf fortress because i look now months for games with big gameplay...i just realized that most games are tech demo´s with a little bit mainstream gameplay and thats why iam here :)

i like complex games and read a lot now about roguelike games...i have now enough information what iam planning to play like adom and crawl...

but i want to ask if there are more games with this simple look but complex gameplay not only in rpg genre ? maybe more strategic games or maybe better clones of games like doomrl ? i hope u understand my question :)

and are there any good multiplayer rogue games ?

ok thats with my questions, hope u can understand my english  :-X

I think there is Ascii Sector, which is kind of a space game but with ascii graphics. Anyway, it is not finished, and I cannot remember the home page. Google for it. As for other genres, I think there aren't much games to consider. Dwarf Fortress is strategy, and I cannot remember any other which deviates much from the RPG genre right now.

There is War of Wizards, a 7drl for windows, Mangband and TomeNet. I think they are the only ones.

Yes, but *please* write full words (u->you, sry->sorry). It's not like there is any hurry in writing in a forum, and most of the people here aren't native english speakers either, but we try to do our best writing. (I am Spanish, for instance)

Hope I have helped a bit. ;)

There is an awesome ASCII strategy game called Anacreon - although there's a new windows version.

Try it out: http://www.neurohack.com/anacreon/

There are so few games because most people don't think ASCII is sexy. But it is.

thanks for the link :) and sure it is...its pure and simple...but i dont like if they try to make "bitmaps" or what its called like in IVAN....that is really ugly :/ dwarf fortress is perfect :) so funny those details ^^

Now now, don't let IVAN's graphics fool you. It takes a bit getting used to, but the gameplay is superb! And a person who plays ASCII games should know that gameplay is what matters;)

I just downloaded it and played for a few minutes, but Liberal Crime Squad isn't a normal dungeon crawler, though it does seem to start a bit dry. Have a look for download links at http://www.bay12games.com/cgi-local/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=forum&f=3 (http://www.bay12games.com/cgi-local/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=forum&f=3). In fact, have a look at all Tarn Adam's other ASCII games, they're all unusual.

liberal crime squad is awesome. but once you learn the tricks it gets a bit old. I play dwarf fortress from time to time but since they haven't made it for linux yet I have to use wine which makes it seem to lag more than it should.

as far as multiplayer tomenet is awesome.
