I finally was able to run Tower (http://tower.sourceforge.net/) and it's quite impressive. I think this is one of the most promising projects around. The Nethack-like interface sucks, but eye-candy and various crazy items make up for it. I think you should check out this one, Slash, especially since it's written in Java.

Screenshots look sweet, java web start is cool, havent had the chance to check it out, but will do soon :)
Thanks for letting me know

The graphics are pretty cool, I love watching all the O's and a's and such swing around to run. The main problem I have with it is the controls, they are VERY nonstandard with no numpad movement, and neither g nor . picking stuff up(its , to pickup) also since I was playing windowed the top bit of text was about halfway off the screen, still readable but annoying to do so. It also locks up your mouse while you are playing which is somewhat annoying. But all in all its pretty fun and it feels very smooth to play.

There's a new version out with many new features and bugfixes!

Say, did someone manage to build anything, yet?

I like the game; very Nethack, but with a nifty interface. However, there seems to be a problem...Every time I eat something, even a food ration, I end up vomiting. Is this supposed to happen?
-
You feel nauseous and therefore end up vomiting after eating bad, rotten or cursed food. Note that food like fruits, vegetables and meat spoil quickly. Although the manual says you can, I don't know how to preserve such food without a freeze dryer.
The food rations you get from the beginning are usually good but some rations you find in the tower may be bad. That's my experience. As far as I see there's no way to tell the quality of the food. That's a big problem I have with the game. You don't get detailed information about the items you carry. You can't even tell which weapon is better than the one you're wielding.
Lately I had a weird situation. I read an unknown scroll when suddenly my flaming whip stuck to my hand. There seemed to be no way to unstuck it so I couldn't use anything else. The main problem with that was that there were only dead ends and not able to use the pick axe I couldn't go on.
In another game when I played a barbarian without a pick axe yet again a dead end appeared. How are you suposed to play on when such things happen?

Well, you can always 's'earch for hidden doors.

I don't know... actually it seems that the s key doesn't do anything. There's never a message coming up no matter where I search.

This is so cool. I may still be dying, but now I'm dying in 3D! ;D
