[Angband] Question relatited to weapons balancing.
« on: February 03, 2016, 02:50:52 PM »
Hello everyone, I have a question concerning weapons balancing.

It seem light weapons (dagger, main gauche, rapier...) are by far more powerful that heavy weapons (broad axe, broad sword, hammer...), in effect the damages/round of light weapons are very superior.

For example I play a dwarf warrior and with 18/50 STR and 12 DEX he causes 18 damages/round with a simple dagger and only 11 damages/round with a broad axe, it's an heresy  :o

Is there any advantage to use heavy weapons in Angband ?

My apologies for my bad English, I´m French. But I intend to improve myself.

Yes - if your character lives long enough to get good STR and DEX stats, light weapons will hit the limit of attacks per round and heavy weapons will start to close the gap.
Some characters such as early mages are too weak to get an extra attack with a dagger - for them, heavier weapons are more reliable in an emergency.
Some heavy weapons are also worth wielding for the abilities or immunities they provide, provided the character can compensate for the loss of damage-per-round with bows, spells, or stealth.

It just doesn't make sense, a warrior cannot be stronger with dagger than broad axe  :-[
