Every time I fight something that poses a challenge, I have to queue up all this stuff... and since there's no need to eat, sleep, or drink, and since wandering monsters are really a nonissue, there's no reason not to wait until the cooldown times out between battles. Gah... it's maddening to me when the most cautious playstyle is so gleefully rewarded. If I'm not feeling the pressure, what's the point?

I fully agree.

What I enjoy the most in roguelikes: Anti-Farming and Mac Givering my way out. Kind of what I also enjoy in real life.

I've recently gotten back into this game and I have to say:

everyone who didn't like the early versions of this game should give it another chance.  It's got a lot of interesting content, unique, interesting classes, and everything is much more polished.

Not everyone will like the cooldown-heavy combat (I'm not a fan of it myself), but I feel that the game has reached the point where its strong points clearly outweigh its weaknesses.

This game, regardless of whether you like the combat mechanics, looks great. Really slick AI, though I don't like the 'ascii' setting. Is this really a 1-man project?

Generally a one man spearheading everything project----art and sound from contributors, community aids in some general and specific tasks, etc.   DarkGod pretty much popped up with this out from nowhere and went to town on it beyond what anybody could have expected in the early days even with how generally promising it all sounded at the time.

I think so too- I played it again yesterday & it's really shaping up.

Some stuff still stands in stark contrast to the general level of polish (e.g. the UI in general is a bit plain with I think Arial used for all the texts, which is a bit of a strange choice of fonts for the game's visual theme) but it's really coming along nicely.

Doesn't show up as Ariel for me - I get a stylised fantasy font. Check your game settings.

Change the mouse cursor in the options to the default system mouse - should be fine then.

I lose the mouse entirely whenever I go full-screen.

Slick interface, and enjoying it so far. My only complaint is the maps themselves are kind dull; I especially don;t like the dungeon generation for the lower lever dungeons I have encountered, but maybe I am just not far enough in the game to see the good stuff yet.

(Oh, and screw that stupid archmage quest you can accept on making a new archmage.....)

Though I don't consider myself at all hard core I have to give my opinion. I don't like it. Perhaps I am just a Luddite, but I cannot get into this game at all. I was so pumped when it won Roguelike of the year because it was a game I hadn't played and I was excited to have a new game in the rotation. I plan on giving it another shot soon. There is a ton of work going into it. This dude obviously knows what the hell he's doing. I wish I were more constructive.

What do you not like about it?  What race/classes have you played and what dungeons have you tried?

Kind of a long shot, but I've been hunting around and I cannot find it, I'm looking for the old version of TOME, I kind of wanted to replay a lot of my old favorite modules (including one unfinished and fun Dragonball based one haha)
